Mackenzie Gives a Talk at SACNAS

We are proud to announce that Mackenzie recently presented at the SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference, alongside esteemed speakers Omayra Ortega, PhD, MPH, and Monica Lares, PhD. Her session, titled “Connecting with Plants: Biology Lesson Study,” was a powerful call to action for institutions ready to embark on transformative change.

Mackenzie and her colleagues provided attendees with tools to inspire actionable change, encouraging participants to envision a more inclusive and just future for STEM education.

Welcome Isabella to the Zippay Lab!

We are excited to welcome Bella, our new undergraduate student, to the Zippay Lab! Bella is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology at SSU, bringing her passion for ocean ecosystems and marine life to our research. She is eager to contribute to our projects focused on environmental physiology and learn more about how species adapt to changing environmental conditions. We’re thrilled to have her on board and look forward to seeing her grow as a scientist!

Aiyana takes on Leadership Roles

We are pleased to announce that Aiyana has taken on the role of Co-President of the Biology Graduate Student Club, alongside Madison Stein! Aiyana’s leadership and dedication to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for graduate students will help guide the club as it continues to grow and serve the community. In addition to this role, Aiyana is also the current Biology Graduate Student Representative for the Biology Department, where she advocates for the interests of her fellow students. We are excited to see Aiyana bring her passion for science and leadership to both positions!
